Hey guys, just joined after hearing about this site from my friend. I have a 2003 Ford Focus SVT. I'm 18 and I live in the hopewell/ fishkill area. It's good to know there are a lot of car enthusiasts in the Hudson Valley. I also play Xbox so pm me your gamertag if you want to play.

Welcome
I had a championship orange Euro edition SVT Focus. Great handling cars. I never could get mine to fully dissengage traction control. Eventually mine went back due to constant failure of that 2 piece flywheel. It was fun while it lasted. The stock systems slam. Mine had an 8" sub mounted in the trunk. You too?

bout a 40hp increase, newer ones have a 2.3L duratec motor as opposed to the 2.0L zetec found in the regular model, the early model SVT had a revised 2.0L zetec, sport tuned suspension, upgraded fuel pump(equivalent to a walbro 255), better exhaust, more torque, SVT ford parts support, the 2.0L zetec(revised) made more HP than the 2.3L duratec, but the 2.3L duretec was a better more stout motor. handled more boost if blown and etc. compression was different between the base focus and svt. svt iirc was 10.5.1 or 10.2.1 ........ theres a lil more but i cant remember off the top of my head

close enough, but we'll give it to ya. i mean...you do drive a mazda... lol jk. the svt motor is built by cosworth, which = god for the focus community. i wish they kept the 2.3 duratec around, but unfortunatly only the 2.0 has been offered since the 2008 model.

Welcome to the site dude! Also check out Focusfanatics.com (i have the same name over there) Nice to have another focus in the area!

I loved the handling and the looks of my SVT,but as far as the powertrain goes........FAILED!
Everything looked so good on paper, but after owning the car I can't say it lived up to it's name at all. I put that thing through it's paces but it never really stood up. That car was at Ford more often than you could imagine.
For some reason it takes more power to make these things go fast than say a Honda with the same weight and power. I've seen a few 500-550whp SVT's and none of them ran any better than 11's. If you ask me it's due to the gearbox, traction controll that never disengages, and crappy 2 piece flywheel design. Other than that it was a great car. I guess it would have maybe lasted a little longer if I would have babied it a little. But why the hell would I baby a car that has been dubbed part of Ford's Special Vehicle Team lineup? And that was exactly what I said to the dealership's General manager.
I hope that you have better luck with yours.

Woo damn it's been a while since I checked this. My bad lol. My Svt is infra red with no major issues to report (knock on wood). I got it for 6k with 52k mi on it. I totally agree that it is a little dissapointing how much work needs to go into it to really get it to move. But remember you're still running with a 130 hp engine/powertrain that has been worked by both cosworth, and SVT to get to 170hp. And after those guys got at it, it takes no less than some insane forced induction to get to those 11s. On the other hand, it's my only car, it gets driven daily, year round, and for what I paid, I couldn't have done much better for 6k. Between engine power, suspension, headroom/legroom, gas mileage(30mpg). I don't need something that blows the doors off every rice burner that wants to take me in the straight...cuz I can take him in the curves =P
p.s. Yes I do have the audiophile system with the sub/bass kicker in the back

p.s.s. I will post pics tomorrow.

I agree. It's a great car for the price. I bought mine brand new. My ex-wife's father was a tech with 25 yrs. on the job at Manhatten Ford so I got whats called the X-plan. I got the car for $17,500. Sticker was just over $23K with the Euro package, 17" gun metal wheels, 6 disc in-dash cd player, Heated & Recaro leather bucket seats. The suspension was great. very little tire roll,or body roll. Only FWD car I've ever had that would oversteer so violently with such little effort. However it was avery controllable oversteer. I can't tell you how many times I had that thing at a 120+mph going down Beekman road and old hopewell road (I'm sure you know those roads being your from the area)
The motor had it's strong points too. I loved the fact that at 6K RPM's the motor takes on the profile of a V-Tec and snarls it's way up past redline, pulling hard all along the way. And motor that can pull hard that high in it's rpm range is OK in my book.
I drove mine a lot from upstate in Poughquag, down to Yonkers, the Bronx Queens, Long Island and so on for work. But it was a pleasure to drive long distance. And it was pretty good on gas if you were'nt heavy on the gas and you use that 6th gear. Highway driving where 70-75mph was permitted was ideal. Enough rpm's in 6th to pass, but not so much that you could'nt cruise without having to keep your foot deep into the gas.
I did really like the car a lot. My plan was to turbocharge it. But I wound up having so many problems with it I actually wound up returning the car from multiple 2 pc. flywheel failures. Actually the first one I got was red. I picked it up,drove from Miracle Ford in Pleasent valley to Uno's in Poughkeepsie on main street. Got back in the car pulled out onto the arterial, shifted into 2nd gear and felt the linkage snap. Leaving me and my car sitting on the side of the road. That was when I went back and picked out the Euro package Championship orange SVT. So in all honesty I had two bad experiances with these cars. Which was dissapointing because I loved the look, feel, and general appearance of the car. It was peppy, and in-tune with the road. I just had a few small suspension mods. I can only imagine how good the car could handle if you performed some serious suspension modifications. The short wheelbase makes the car nearly immune to inclimate weather conditions. Wet roads can be driven on like they're dry.
All in all I think you got a good deal.

This is not mine. But it's the same exact car I had. Rims and all.

Yea. I'm on Focaljet and FocusFanatics. Same username. I probably won't drop it only because it's lowered further than the stock zx3 I found out, but that doesn't mean it will never happen. One main reason I don't want to is because I lost both O2 sensors to Old Albany Post Road. Hit a deep bump, and the header bounced off the engine...and the cat bounced off the bottom of the car.

Needless to say, both sensors were snapped. I replaced the front one already and just ordered the rear one to get that stupid CEL off the dash and out of my nightmares. But anyway, if I DO drop it, the car WILL become a track rat ^.^

There are SO many things I can do with this car. Performance wise, I think I am going to do a 67mm TB and a tune. I.C.E., I desperately want a stereo head that lets me play my frickin iPod...

Anyway, MikeF2D, let me know when there is a Focus meet. I live in Hopewell and work at Starbucks in Fishkill so you'll see me around there a lot. I really would love to meet some fellow Focus enthusiasts locally. I never have anyone to cruise with....except my co worker with a 350z but he's not always free.
My fingers are tired, so this post is done :)

none whatsoever. they even called rhinebeck ford and told them to stick it to us because "were bad people". Theres now an internal investigation against Miracle and hopefully something comes of it.
